The Problem

  • Bubbadue is a South-African based e-commerce store selling premium baby products such as bibs, dummies, changing mats, and clothes.
  • The store had seen a plateau in growth for their build-a-box products and was struggling to reach the same levels of revenue as they had the year before.
  • Acquisition Engine was contacted for strategic advice on how to increase their sales while keeping their ad spend in check.

Our Work

  • After a discovery session with the Bubbadue team and gaining an understanding of their current user experience, it was determined that a likely reason for the drop in sales was due to the expensive build-a-box items being targeted to the wrong customer segment, and not having systems in place to provide upsells to increase average cart value
  • It was further discovered that one of their products, the Bibs Dummy, was a top product, and that this lower priced item was always in demand, but not promoted first in their user experience flow

The Solution

  • We worked with Bubbadue over a series of sessions to recommend upselling software to increase the average cart value of their sales, and to use that additional revenue to fund the purchase of more Bibs Dummies
  • This provided Bubbadue with the product stock needed to keep a steady flow of traffic to their site, due to the high-demand of the dummies
  • The marketing spend on Google Ad Words was also optimised to focus specifically on the Bibs Dummies to further increase traffic to the site
  • When customers visited the site for the Bibs Dummies, they were now guided to add the lower-priced Bibs Dummy to their cart first, and then were upsold a more expensive build-a-box, as opposed to the other way around

The Results

  • After two-months of implementing this strategy, Bubbadue's revenue per month increased
  • As a result, Bubbadue was able to afford a larger purchase order of their top product (the Bibs dummy), which kept a steady flow of traffic to their site due to the demand for the dummy
  • With the increased traffic and the upsell systems in place, the average cart value increased, and more build-a-boxes were sold
